Kia and Hyundai To Build A Mobile Way To Explore The Moon

Kia and Hyundai Motor will use robotics to aid their joint efforts to ‘Expanding Human Reach.’ The first stop on their journey was to sign research agreements, and they did so with six Korean research institutes, known as the multilateral research agreement. Together, they can develop a mobility solution to explore the moon’s surface.

Exploration of accessing the moon’s surface is in coalition with the Korean rocket launch. The next step is for further use of robotics to bring it all together.
Yong Wha Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Planning and Coordination Center of Hyundai Motor and Kia, says,
“We will expand the scope of human movement experience beyond traditional means of transport and beyond the bounds of Earth to further contribute to the progress of humankind and help create a better future.”
The group effort starts sometime in August 2022. Their first order is to figure out strategies and produce a product that can operate on the moon.
With the multilateral research agreement, Kia and Hyundai Motor can do a lot. However, they still require people from both private and public governments. Some expertise includes the following:
- Exploration equipment
- Software for mobility operation
- Remote communication functionality
But all teams also need to consider the conditions on the moon. There is no air, and drastic changes in temperature with craters and dust coatings abound. Hyundai Motor and Kia understand the challenges and are ready to take them head-on.
Kia and Hyundai Motor Form Personnel To Focus On Moon Mobility
Inside Kia and Hyundai Motor are personnel solely dedicated to the lunar exploration mission. There is a Robotics Lab that is dedicated to robot development. Further, teams must figure out the software, hardware, design, equipment, etc. Although it is a huge undertaking, if anyone can do it, Kia and Hyundai can.
